Mack Brass Horns

Just wondering if anyone has the Hirsbrunner copy from Mack Brass. I've seen reviews and read good things about them, but would like to know how well these horns are holding up over the years. I am a frustrated tuba player whose ex wife made him sell his beloved Miraphone 186 and I'm looking to get back into playing, so I need a horn. Just wondering and seeing if anyone has played one for a while.

Enough people have had good experiences with this horn that we're just about to the point where it is riskier to buy the Hirsbrunner. If you don't know what question to ask, you could spend a lot more money on a horn with plastic valves that seize up in hot weather.

They did, but those tubas are still around, and still sell for a LOT of money on the used market.

And some people seem to NEVER have trouble with them, ever. I think the intonation is the bigger bummer on these (the sharp whaterver-th partial).

I've got 3 students playing the Hirsbrunner copy and one playing the Alexander copy. All are very good horns. I also have 3 students playing the Eb. Also very good instruments.

Wow. Riskier to buy an actual Hirsbrunner. That's a pretty bold go ahead. And no worries Bloke, getting my wife convinced to let me spend even $2K on a horn is not likely in the near future. These horns seem to be becoming more and more consistent in tone and craftsmanship. Especially the way they test and demo them at Mack Brass. Thanks for all the replies.

I don't have any personal experience with the 210, but I purchased a DTU-900 (PT-6p clone) a few months ago and I have had zero complaints so far.

I wonder if mack clone valves would fit the reel hb for much cheaper?

Anyone have experience with/comments on Jonathan's new 5 valve version of the HB 192 clone? I'm thinking it looks and "sounds" like a good idea. I'm going to TMEA pretty soon...does Wessex usually have a booth there?

OP asked about the HB192 clones in his first post...maybe not by model, but it's the only HB copy Tom sells. I asked about a new 5 valve version of that horn, which AFAIK is only available from one vendor. I also asked if anyone knew if I might be able to see that horn at TMEA. Granted, I didn't say exactly that, but it should be easy for anyone to see that's why I asked. I don't think that really needed another thread. The OP mentioned his ex-wife in his 1st post...are you suggesting he should have started a separate thread about her too?

I have looked into attending, but it is just too expensive for a small company like Wessex. The US Army Workshop seems a better one to attend.
