How to deal with repeats on a tablet

Post by hup_d_dup »

I asked a cornetist who uses tablet in a brass band how he deals with repeats, D.C.'s, D.S.'s, and Codas. He said "It's a problem."

I suspected as much as he appears to scroll frantically on anything with a challenging road map.

Although, I don't have personal experience with this, it's my understanding that programs written specifically to display sheet music on tablets have functions to handle this.

I've been known to make multiple copies and rescan then so there are no repeats or codas.

I'd agree with copying pages. If they're scanned as pdfs it's easy enough to duplicate pages and reorder the files. You can also select parts of a page to be copied instead of the entire page.

First, you run to the App Store and download a program called "Forscore"
Then you get acquainted with Photoshop (may want to reverse those first two, now that I think of it)
The app allows you to make additional copies of single pages, and move them wherever you want in the context of a piece of music. I use that function all the time for repeats, DS', and any other time I need to see the same page again. If I'm in a hurry I'll just cross out whatever I'm not playing on the extra page. The app also has a function where you can "erase" whatever you don't want to see on the page.

I also use a foot pedal to turn pages, but use that mostly while playing upright bass. I find it hard to coordinate while playing tuba.
