Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
The Cerveny 653 is nearly the same physical size as the 621, but I'm not sure how the measurements work out or how the bell tapers compare to each other. This might not be helpful.
It reminded me of this old thread, but the relevant photo has been deleted/moved/expired/... Maybe Sean still has the photo though if you think it'd be helpful?

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
Without knowing the specific measurements, my suggestion would be one of the 15", 17", or 19" bells for the Besson Eb tubas,
My own 981 has a sound on the mellow side. That bell might take some of the hardness of the YFB-621 sound.

Look at trying a Miraphone 184 bell. Waaaaay back in my memory is a hazy thought of a similar bell switch. I don't know if that's the sound you want but that's my little contribution.

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
The renovation process of my row-house still isn’t completed. I haven’t unpacked my stacks of instruments, so I cannot measure my tubas.
HHH once combined the wreck of a smallish Conn tuba and the flare of a small sousaphone.
If you could find a reasonably wide tuba flare, couldn’t you cut it to a wide doughnut shape that could be laid on top of the 621 flare. The flare extension should have brackets on its outside that could grip the rim of the 621, and then be screwed tight to avoid buzzing. There could also be a thin cork or synthetic shim between bell and extension.

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
The small end of a 15 inch Besson EEb bell is too large for a 621 but fits a miraphone 184. Therefore a 184 bell wouldnt fit a 621 either. I have a Besson bell and a 621 cc. I used to have a 184 and previously swapped the bell on it, so consider this is to be first hand information.
All the best,

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
Merely thinking outloud...
Would it be possible to somehow graft (silver solder?) two inches of bell flare onto the end of the 621 bell?
Those little Yamaha F's have a surprisingly big sound for their size.

Alternatively, chopping some bell off and making a detachable bell seems like a cool idea.

Wade,
Have you thought to contact Kanstul for options?
Maybe the bell to one of these would fit?

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
Hi Wade,
I just spoke with a few folks at the Atelier in LA about this very thing. I had been liking the 621 in the quintet, but was convinced the bell (specifically the strange flare, or lack thereof) was at the root of my issues with the horn. The Bobo and 822 had different issues and I wanted to try to stick with the 621.
They gave me a lead and will be following up after NAMM. I'll let you know if anything comes up with it.
I don't check Tubenet often, so if you want to talk later about this, email me.

Re: YFB-621 Bell Options
I have a lot to say about this but don't have time to write.
I was there when Bobo was trying the bells and he preferred the smaller bell.
There are no other bells that will fit the 621 except if you want to exchange the bottom bow as well. I may have what you are looking for, but it's in Switzerland.
