players to listen to
Do you have favorite Youtube clips of players or orchestral excerpts or pieces that you like? I will look for some and post them here. My tuba education needs to begin.

Said to a student playing a passage: "There are only two kinds of music in the world. There are love songs, and there are pirate songs. Which one is this?"

Daniel Barenboim conducting; Richard Wagner, "Ride of the Valkyries" (Berlin Philharmonic)

I love his conducting technique! His baton tip is easy to see, and he's easy to follow. Might be the first time I've actually seen Barenboim conducting.
I want to play the tuba part on this. This is my "dream piece" right now.

"Ride of the Valkyries" presented by the New York Metropolitan Opera Company:

Beautiful singing. Never heard this before with the vocal parts. If anyone wants to take in some opera in New York City or Philadelphia, let me know. I think I am going to try to study some full Wagner pieces. I know little about the Ring cycle.

IF you want to learn about The Ring, this is about the best introduction there is. Yes, intentionally funny, but dead on. https://youtu.be/07E5sLsJQe0" target="_blank

Thanks guys, will follow up.
Just listened to Tannhauser. Napping, but intentionally. Seriously, it was amazing--he does so much with close intervals.

This was super awesome...I loved it. Now I know the story. Makes the heaviness palatable.eupher61 wrote:IF you want to learn about The Ring, this is about the best introduction there is. Yes, intentionally funny, but dead on. https://youtu.be/07E5sLsJQe0" target="_blank" target="_blank

Re: players to listen to
When I posted the link I hadn't yet heard the recording. I listened to most of it today, and found it very inspiring and beautiful. I searched Mr. Baer's name here (just now) and the hits were all hardware.
