A simple guide to relaxation training is John Harvey's Total Relaxation. The book gives useful explanations about managing anxiety and includes a CD with 4 relaxation exercises. I also like Jon Kabat-Zinn's Guided Mindful Meditation. Two of his well know books are Coming to Our Senses and Wherever You Go, There You Are.Dr. Kabat-Zinn was the founding director of the Stress Reduction Clinic and Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. This program was used to treat sucessufully folks with Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Labile High Blood Pressure and other Cardiac issues. For some folks Yoga can be extremely powerful (but if this is something you consider get a good teacher as I have know people who have over done things to there back. Yoga works for managing anxiety and stress because while focusing on the Yoga postures, one can not easily maintain the negative self talk.
