Which tuba is visually the most aesthetically pleasing?

To me the Besson bell-front BBb is one of the ugliest tubas ever made.

It is so obvious that this design came as a forced afterthought, because Besson/B&H wanted a share of the market for bell-front tubas.

All sane bell-front tubas have the bell collars at the level of the top bow. Besson did not want to rewrap their tubas, so they placed the collars way too low thereby causing a far too low set leadpipe plus huge vision problems for the player.

I'd trade any of my tubas for that 6/4 Martin, but my esthetic ideal is a little less rotund.

I nominate the Kalison DS - this one's unusually not fully silver plated

I think the Miraphone 188 is the most proportionally pleasing tuba.

In terms of sheer bling, it's got to be Jonathan Hodgetts' goldbrass Neptune.

I agree with Donn about the Kalison. Maybe those weren't always the best sounding horns, but they sure were photogenic.

I have to say that the "Bessie" recording bell horn is about the ugliest most awkward horn to hold and play that I have ever played.

Almost impossible to see around also. It plays surprisingly well for as ugly as it is. It is the beagle of tubas. (Why are beagle's so cute?....Because they have to be!

)

As for the most aesthetically pleasing? That post from cktuba is a real beauty. The Holton BB-345 that Dan Oberloh built for Bandmaster is stunning! A MW-197! Now we are talking!
