Tempest Tubas

Post by Stephen Shoop »

I am seeking information about the country of manufacture/origin for Tempest brand tubas... imported by Agility Winds, based in San Antonio, Texas. According to the Agility Winds website, available models include "Prague," "Munich," Regensburg," and "205," as well as several others. Please respond to this post by those who are certain they know country of manufacture for these tubas.... as well as interaction anyone has had with the owners/representatives of Agility Winds about this issue. Thanks.

I realize there is a previous thread about Tempest tubas. I am specifically seeking information about country of origin, as well as details from those who have apparently been told "Germany" by owners/representatives. I wonder if at least some of the models are manufactured in Germany.... or not.

Check out the 12th post in this thread - the poster makes a pretty good case for the Tempest being a JinBao.
<edit> I just read the thread you mentioned above. What part of it did you not find persuasive?

Actually.... I find that post very persuasive! The reason for my post: A band director colleague of mine here in Texas purchased a number of Tempest tubas. He too was told these instruments are manufactured in Germany. I am seeking the truth.

I spent some time at this booth at TMEA. My memory isn't perfect but he definitely called them German, but didn't necessarily specify where they were made.

It's my understanding that Vurl Bland is a rep for Tempest. I was under the impression that these instruments were made in Germany as well. I bet Vurl can clarify.
