Sometimes, to put a tuba at standing height, I place the K&M bow cradle/post into an adjustable cymbal stand. Very stable.

I had a KM and it did not last long before I stripped one of the screws. It kept slipping on tile floors so in an effort to stabilize it, I stripped the screw. It seems like the BBC stands are "simpler" and use the weight of the instrument to keep stable. It seems like you could make one out of a drum pad and a cymbal stand like the one mentioned above.

Although... Since BBC makes their stand. I wonder if you could buy an additional longer post for one of their stands from them.

Good question. I know Fedderly had a lot of back problems (at least shortly before I moved out of Bmore), and I remember seeing him play an outdoor run-out gig with a stand with a tall post for standing and playing. No clue if it was the BBC stand or something else.
