The first thing you need to pick up is a good teacher.

They will put you on the right path to a good horn.

Hello,
Are you in touch with your high school band director?
Ask him or her for a loaner tuba for the summer, especially necessary if you enroll in summer school band classes and sign up for community summer band programs.
I recommend getting involved with summer bands, which can be great musical and social experiences.
