Whew. One would definitely be challenged by that part, but it is something to work towards. The clef is intimidating, as are the key changes and metric switches. But, good musicians always master even the toughest of parts. Ha.

It would be a lot less intimidating if they just wrote "Tacit".

I suppose one would have to count out loud (real loud so they could hear you in the back of the hall-dynamics are missing on this excerpt) on this one for the audition committee. behind a screen of course for the first round, then without the screen for the finals ( you could use less volume now), just to make sure you're not using your fingers to keep track of what measure you're in while counting.

Well, this excerpt is not for beginners. These skills can successfully be acquired through much practice and daily coaching with a qualified/certified counting expert.

Hey, have some respect! It's keeping some copyist in business, and when listed, there IS a tuba part, so by extension some future tuba player... 8)

Thanks for bringing this piece to my attention. I did a play through on all of my tubas and I have to say that part lays best on my Meinl Weston 46 F tuba. And again, I had to come back to my Sheridan S-3 mouthpiece as giving the most clarity to my F tuba. I did okay with my King BBb (3 valve top loader circa 1917) and that original King 26 mouthpiece just put it over the edge. However, I just couldn't bring out the musical nuances with any of my CC tubas. Maybe I just don't have the right CC mouthpiece. Most likely I was playing it too legit.

If played at the correct tempo, how long is this? 4 minutes and 33 seconds?

Actually, the committee may wish to note whether the candidate elects to read a book, text or fall asleep during this piece. Section cohesiveness is important should the candidate be awarded the job.

"All I ask of You"... nothing.
I'd be fine with that.
