I need this community's help. I, yes a tuba player, started a Community Band in a SMALL rural Town. We have an eclectic group (tuba, t-bone, 2 euphs, 2 clarinets, sax, and 2 horns and an on again/off again trumpet.) We are 16 months old and getting music has been difficult. Have a centennial celebration for a neighboring community and they want an Armed Forces Salute (with all 4 Armed Service + Coast Guard). Can anyone out there help?

Re: Armed Forces Salute for Weird Ensemble Needed
I apologize. . . You must have thought of this)
Have a music software (Finale PrintMusic, etc.
Get piano sheet music and write off parts for horn, tbone, and sax (usually loudest reed - what voice?) on melody. others 2,3,4 parts (tuba lowest).
Alternate brass and reeds on strains except for intro and last.
Get somebody else to listen to the results (Don't trust the software playback.) and modify as necessary.
Give the trumpet melody, but make h/h tune up.
Give the tuba a couple of leading melody phrases.
Uhmm, works for some Christmas music

Re: Armed Forces Salute for Weird Ensemble Needed
I started a group that does stock arrangements only covering a small number of the parts. The old editions are designed for this to work, and we get a good result. We just gave an entire program of quintet arrangements, it worked fine also. Get yourself the quintet arrangement and do some part sharing, you will be well served that way.
