Musical Instrument Insurance

The AFM offers musical instrument insurance through Seabury & Smith.

Has anyone had to file a claim with them? How was their service?

If you have insurance for your tuba with another company, who is it? What are their premiums (usually quoted a certain $ amount per $100 replacement value of the horn)? How has their claim service been?

Is your insurance on your tuba(s) part of your homeowner's/renter's insurance, added on to that with a binder, or a completely separate policy for protecting your musical equipment?

Clarion offers instruments insurance policys at $.55 per $100 of value with a $100 deductable. A rider on a homeowner's or renter's policy is a good option but check with your agent. Some insurance companies will not issue a rider on an item that is used professionally outside of the home.

I had to get an Inland Marine Policy on my homeowners policy which covered the instruments when they were not in the home. I needed this extra policy because I wold be considered a professional musician, since I use the instrument for income, as nominal as it may be. If they were stolen from the homr they would be covered under my regular policy , but if they were stolen from my car or on a gig the inland marine policy would cover it. I have since switch companies to State Farm and my new agent said they would still be covered by my homeowners.

But these policies only cover theft. They do not cover damage. The AFM plan supposedly covers damage like while on a gig and you drop the axe down the stairs or something or someone knocks it off the stage....
