Dillon 399 F Tuba Opinions

Post by Nalba531 »

I'm getting ready for grad school in the fall and am starting to look at F tubas (may be a bit late to the F Tuba game but oh well). The problem I've come across is the price on even the used versions of some of the more popular 'brand names'. I've been looking a lot at Chinese models from Mack and Eastman currently but I was wondering if anyone has tried the F tuba from Dillon Music. The shop is fairly close to where I live and wouldn't mind taking a trip down to try it out. It seems pretty affordable and I've heard great things about their CC tubas. I'm looking for a fairly versatile F tuba but the primary usage would be quintets and solo studying. I don't want to get anything too large either. If anyone has any advice that would push me in the right direction I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks!

It is a PT10/PT15 F tuba clone---they have been reviewed here quite favorably. Same as the MACK F /Wessex Strauss F.
Talk to Matt at Dillon Music for his thoughts. Matt will not steer you wrong!
If you are close to the shop, take a trip and try them and the other F tubas out to see what is best for you.
Best of luck.
