Brass Band solos?
Can anyone recommend a good solo with brass band accompaniment that would be appropriate for a concerto competition? I.e. challenging but not impossible, exciting, listenable? Also under 10 minutes in length.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Just because the whole piece is over 10 minutes, doesn't mean that you can't use, for example, just the first movement. This is the case for the Australian National Band Championships this easter, where the EEb Bass test piece is just the 1st movt of the Gregson.jszkutko wrote:The Gregson is about 18 minutes
There is now a BB version of the Vaughn Williams acc.
I hope you find a piece that suits you!

You might like to look at my BBb (also Eb) solo 'Mr C Takes a Stroll'. There is a downloadable demo of the solo part (pdf) and a sound clip on my website .

Written by a UK composer called Michael Brand.JCRaymo wrote:There is a solo for Eb tuba with brass band that was recorded by the New Youk Staff band titled Tuba Tapestry which I really want to play in the future. This piece is not very long I know it is under ten minutes and it has a lip trill tpward the end which is pretty cool.
John Fletcher recorded it, on LP (!), with Sun Life Stanshawe Brass Band.

Take a look at my music webpage! I have arranged music for Tuba, Tuba Quartet, Tuba with Brass Band, Brass Quartet, Brass Quintet, Large Brass Ensemble, Brass Band, as well as Brass with Choir!
One piece in particular for Tuba and Brass Band that I have arranged is Rossini's Figaro! from the Barber of Seville. Check it out!

Andrew Baker is being very modest here and not mentioning that there is a recording of himself playing Tuba Tapestry with the New York Staff Band when they toured the UK a couple of years ago.
Andrew is a very fine tuba player and makes an excellent presentation on the CD called Tour de Force. This CD is compiled from three (I think) of the concerts that the band gave on that tour.
