Lidl 702 3/4 cc/JinBao 6 valve F in Quintet

Post by eupho »

Is anyone using eitherof these tubas in quintet? Are they versatile enough for chamber orchestra, brass ensemble?

Beware the 6v F made by JinBao. Easily the single most out of tune tuba I have ever played. Alternate fingerings out the wazoo, lots of lipping and slide pulling, and it's STILL out.

Other than that, it sounds nice, has an easy low register, and would work well in quintet. But beware... You'll be yelling at yourself and so will everyone else... Pitch is a major issue on that horn.

I am aware of the issues with the 6 valve. An owner did a demo (Blazevich, Tyrell) and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
