Adams tuba????

Post by ken k »

hello fellow tube netters,

i was browsing the Baltimore Brass website and saw that they had an Adams BBb tuba for sale for $14,000!!! I am not familiar with this brand of tuba. I recall seeing Adams timpani but not tubas?

Any info on this brand?

Great brand as a whole. Haven't had the chance to play their tubas, but their Euphoniums are top notch. I do know the tubas are made with the hirsbrunner tooling and based off of their designwith the adams touch and fines. I was at the booth at ITEC and all the tuba players in general seemed either thrilled about their range of horns or at the very least satisfied. I was with a friend looking to by one and he tried them, but wasn't for him but did say it was a good horn(he was looking for a CC specifically)

I tried out that Adams last time I was there. Never having played a Hirsbrunner I can't comment on how similar they are, but that Adams was impressive. Beautiful tone, intonation and response. Not sure what to make of the price, though I suppose a pro could expense it................

If this has ever become a bigger deciding factor than ever it is now as more companies are merging and things get scrambled around... *cough cough buffet group cough cough* Adams customer service is phenomenal! They really take care of you as an owner of one of their wonderful instruments. Easy to get a hold of and quick to respond. Replacement parts are super accessible. If you ever get a chance to meet Miel or anyone else from Adams, they a just top rate people!

Looks like a Hirsbrunner F to me, not anything BBb.
Indeed it does, but that is the picture that BBC provides for their listing of the Adams Bb.

I have heard really good things about these horns. The only real negatives have just been in regards to its price. But, that is still a good deal for a horn of that quality. Just look at the costs of B&S and MW (especially some of MW's hand-mades).

It might be interesting (in a few directions) to check the new prices of tubas these days. Short version is that tubas are *expensive*.

To me:
* MW and B&S are more expensive than I thought
* Alexanders are less than I thought
* Willsons are more than I thought
* Miraphones seem like a bargain
* Rudy Meinl's seem "about right," but compared to MW/B&S they don't seem out of reach for a new-tuba shopper
