Leather top-loading gig bag (other than Gard)?

Post by bort »

Is there any such thing as a leather gig bag, that is top-loading, and is NOT the Gard gig bag?

My new tuba came with a leather Cronkhite bag, and while the build quality and protection are the best I've ever seen (VERY impressive), I'm finding myself reminded that I really like top-loading bags better.

Does anyone make a leather, top-loading gig bag?

The company used to make a leather tuba gig bag seen in the link. I don't think they offer that item anymore. I have one that needs the interior redone. I actually punched holes in the leather, ran bungee cords though it and strapped it to a luggage cart. Best tuba transport system I've ever used. I'm seriously thinking about going back to it.

A note on this bag: I had to move the handles on it because the bag was impossible to carry without the bell end dragging the ground..... it also has the worst backpack straps I've ever seen on a gig bag. They are totally unusable. Baltimore brass sold me the thing for $75 when I purchased my Marzan from them. It fits the horn great.

If you can find one, you'll want to strap it to a luggage cart as well.

Thanks! Sounds like one to maybe avoid... but still very helpful. Thanks again!

I had one of those with a previous F tuba. Nice bag, but the straps were awful. You would be better off stealing some straps off of some luggage.
