Although alcohol would not harm the surface during regular maintenance cleaning, the frosted silver will be exposed directly to the air and tarnish more easily.billako wrote:In the past I used whiting and then alcohol to clean my frosted silver tuba. Sometimes I use a cleaning cloth but it leaves residue, which can be seen if you wipe it off with a clean cloth and alcohol.
Does the alcohol harm the finish?
Thanks for any reply. Bill.
I prefer to use a cleaner such as Pledge furniture polish, which leaves a thin film of oil to protect the silver from tarnish. I spray the furniture polish and wipe down the surface with a clean, very soft cotton cloth, such as an old T-shirt.
