Rubbing alcohol to clean frosted silver tuba?

In the past I used whiting and then alcohol to clean my frosted silver tuba. Sometimes I use a cleaning cloth but it leaves residue, which can be seen if you wipe it off with a clean cloth and alcohol.

Does the alcohol harm the finish?

Although alcohol would not harm the surface during regular maintenance cleaning, the frosted silver will be exposed directly to the air and tarnish more easily.

I prefer to use a cleaner such as Pledge furniture polish, which leaves a thin film of oil to protect the silver from tarnish. I spray the furniture polish and wipe down the surface with a clean, very soft cotton cloth, such as an old T-shirt.
