Mouthpiece suggestions?

Post by Muffinman »

Hi, I'm a bass trombonist but new to the tuba.

My instrument is a YEB-381 (related I believe to the YEB-321).

I'm currently using a Denis Wick 2L which seems to be the perfect fit for the lead pipe, and it feels fine.. I guess.

I'd like to to try a few others, I guess my main requirement is a full low register. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

Everyone wants a full low register - if the DW 2L really didn't deliver on that, it probably wouldn't still be around. On the other hand, if all tuba players were like me, it also wouldn't be around.

There's a slight chance that with more information about how it works for you, someone would be able to predict what might be a better mouthpiece. Otherwise we're just creating another inventory of existing tuba mouthpieces of the word, each of which works for someone. Best thing would probably be to sample some common and relatively inexpensive options until a pattern emerges.

This company makes it economical to test one. I have 3 of these and they are durable and comfortable too. A Kellyberg makes a good result on my BBb and F tubas.
