Melton 200

Dear Tuba players,

I own a Melton 200 6/4 Bb tuba, and only have a case with it. I'm looking for a gigbag that fits the size, does anyone have suggestions? I can't find the measurements, and don't have measure equipment in my studentflat..

Hello Luc,
I'm also a proud owner of a Melton 200.
I would advise you strongly, don't use a gigbag, only the case.
This tuba is so huge and heavy that it's almost inevitably to strike cars and furniture while transporting it.
After the first dents you will regret the choice.
A case protects the tuba much better than a gigbag.
However it's of course more cumbersome to carry.
I bought my tuba new, directly from the manufacturer 1996 and have always used the case for transport.
Only when it's time for playing I take it out of the case.
Still there are only a very few and small dints hardly visible and without impact on the sound.
If you still wonder about the dimensions they are bell dia. 500 mm, height 1140 mm.

Yes, but it is almost unnecessary, very seldom used.
Previously I had a well reknown tuba in my military band, which certainly should have need for one.
That's why I ordered the trigger when buying a tuba of my own.

If too expensive for you, talk to Herr Frank Schroeder of FMB in Guetersloh. He offers different makes of gigbags and for certain will have the measures of the Melton 200.

That's what I did. I had mine made in the form of a backpack with extra padding where I wanted it. For me it was logical to do that on the bottom and on the side (opposed to the mouthpipe). When I put my tuba down its either to rest it on its bottom or lay it down on the side.
Because they specialize in backpacks it's made with material which literally will last a lifetime and have perfect backpack style shoulder straps. As well I had a over the shoulder strap put on.
Since it's a top loader backpack style it has no zippers which can break. As well I decided to have it made with tightening straps just like those on a large backpack. This way I can also use it for my smallest tuba without the tuba swimming around.
I've had mine since the 1990's, us it regularly for various tubas's and it has literally no wear or tear.

Hello everybody...we have one in our brass choir...they bought it nearly 1999...I often use when my teachers cannot go to rehearsals I feel it a bit hard and the G2 it's a bit out of tune also the fourth slide I need to correct becouse some notes are also out of tune...but I could see this one shown in pictures is a bit different like our we have...in the big elbow particularly...I would like to know when was discontinued this model...best regards...
