my old jumbo buescher Sousaphone

Post by kevin eckelkamp »

some of you may remember last year when i was selling (due to financial situation) my jumbo buescher on here...& some of you may remember that one of our fellow tubenet members (don't know his name on here) 'bought' the horn, then decided to not pay what we had agreed on...& of coarse he broke off communication with me after he had the horn...what bothers me more than being ripped off, is that now i feel as though i really have lost the horn  ...i don't know if that guy (marcus williams from charlotte, nc) has the horn or if he sold it to buy crack (i really hate the guy  )...i am curious if any of you have maybe seen the horn for sale anywhere on the internet...& i also am here to beg you guys to keep an eye out for a silver 1926 BBb jumbo buescher sousaphone...if you see, contact me please...i am also going to contact ebay to see if they can keep an eye out for (that's where i first saw the magnificent horn back in april 2000 :) i would just love to know where it is & buy it back if possible...also, if you guys could share any similar stories, or words of wisdom, that too would be greatly appreciated...isn't that why we all joined tubenet, for the social support? lol :tuba:

Have you contacted the police regarding this ? Filed a complaint ? Police report ? What allegedly happened is a serious crime ...
This type of behaviour (?) erodes the trust amongst our entire community...not that you should ever ship out anything of such value without first having good $$$$ - but that is another conversation....js

Kevin,

Could you please post some photos of the Jumbo Buescherphone (which is what the manufacturer called it) that you owned?

A few of us have recently encountered another Buescher Jumbo sousaphone within the last few months. It was definitely not yours because it has a lacquer/lacquer-type finish, not silver like yours was. Did yours have a 30" bell like the one that was sold a few months ago by WBI?

The more we know about sousaphone that you sold, the easier it will be to identify it if we see it posted online by someone else.

Hoping that you can resolve this situation to your satisfaction,

Steve

There you have it. Last time I checked, larceny was still a crime. A person could copy the photo from his Facebook page and contact the Charlotte police department.
What did he do, spray paint it gold

You all do realize that that's not the same instrument, right?

The Buescher you sold to him has a different leadpipe setup, bracing, and valve tubing layout. Not sure why he would switch out the valve section for a smaller .734" Conn section (looks like a 20K) from the original ~.770" Buescher section. Also, silver doesn't deteriorate that quickly unless you're really polishing it hard... but then why in those few spots. I don't think that's your old Buescher in his photos.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the photos on Facebook are of a Martin sousaphone with a Conn 20K valve section.

    Here's the instrument in question:

Compare it to the one Harvey Hartman ( :( ) built:

These look far more similar than the jumbo that is posted earlier in the thread:

Hell, the body ferrules aren't even in the same location!
That would explain why he's been trying for yrs now to buy the jumbo buescher i just boughtI
