R.I.P. John "Basil" Wentworth

Post by Stephen Shoop »

I received notice that Basil Wentworth has passed. Those who went to Indiana University during the 1980s through 1990s surely remember Basil. Harvey Phillips mentioned him in his book, Mr. Tuba, as one of his older graduate students. Basil and his wife Joscelyn moved to Bloomington to spend their retirement years there so that Basil could study tuba with Harvey. He played in ensembles at I.U. and until just a few years ago performed euphonium in the Bloomington Brass Band. Joscelyn passed in 2009. Basil was a true gentleman and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
