You know, if Thanksgiving is exactly that, an opportunity to return thanks for harvest, blessings, etc., then Canada celebrates the holiday in a much better time and manner than does the USA.

OTOH, the USA Thanksgiving holiday is roughly at the close of the liturgical year for those denominations that observe such, so it is an opportunity to return thanks for another year, in preparation for the first Sunday in Advent.

In any case, any opportunity and all opportunities to return thanks is/are appropriate.
