What were her actual bills?wnazzaro wrote:So a woman accidentially spills coffee from McDonald's that is known by the company to be served hotter than the industry standard. She suffers third degree burns and goes to the hospital where the bills mount up into the thousands, to amounts that she cannot afford. I suppose she could then go into bankruptcy to cancel her debt, or she could have stopped the doctors from helping her since she didn't have the money needed to cover the bills. Of course, McDonald's has no responsibility in all of this. They just made the coffee.TubaRay wrote:The most important thing to remember in understanding this is one very simple thing. No matter what happens to you, it is NEVER your own fault. So simply look around and find someone else to blame. Of course, the best choices are those who have much, much money. After all, NO ONE makes a lot of money because they deserved it or earned it. They must have cheated some poor bastards in order to get it. In fact, now that I think about it, that money should have been yours in the first place. Yea! That's it! That's the ticket!
That'll teach her.
Does anyone know?
This is probably why the final amount was $500K. The law serves only to make you whole, not to better a person's situation.
2.3 Million is foolish. Regardless that is was McDonalds. What if the privately owned coffee shop did the same thing? We know that this lawsuit would not have reached these proportions. Just because McDonalds makes a lot of money does not make them bad.
Putting a beverage between your legs is foolish no matter hot or cold. Buy a $2 cup holder at Pep Boys or Wal Mart for your car. Or better yet, plan your day so that you don't need to get coffee in a drive "thru". OR, don't drink coffee at all, because it is simply an addictive substance with very little real benefits.
