If you want a giant tuba...

Post by bort »

...check out NRE Brassworks. Norm has some really cool looking giant tubas

This is completely unsolicited (and yes, Norm is a sponsor), but I'm just passing this along since I saw it on his FB page, and maybe not everyone knows about it that.

Norm's a good guy and knows his stuff. Give him a call!

IMHO, that is the single ugliest tuba I have ever seen.

And I'm not even talking about the holey 4th valve.

Does that make prices unreasonable? Or does it make them what you would expect (which is pretty much the definition of reasonable in this context)?

My experience is that if you tell Norm what you want, he'll find a way, and he'll check in at key times to make sure what is shaping up is what you have in mind.

Nah, giant F tubas are crap, and sound confusing.

Sam Gnagey's horns go for just as much as some new tubas.

I believe I was -- very briefly -- the previous owner of that one, before Norm. It is indeed both giant and shiny. I think it was stored in a closet for most of its life. If you want a 36J, you'd be very lucky to find a nicer one.

Sam Gnagey's horns go for just as much as some new tubas.
But Sam has a better product and has seemingly better experience at doing a frankenhorn correct which i cant say i know about this gentleman. They are Very tricky, i know first hand at how complicated the build is.
So, on the one hand this product is inferior and should be sold for much less, but on the other hand you admit you don't know about it. Which is it????

But anyway, on the *other* other hand, Norm is a standup guy and if you want one of his tubas, you won't be sorry you dealt with him.
