An odd juxtaposition this morning--the "breaking" announcement that Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger had been elected the new Pope, while reading the Wikipedia entry that was already several minutes old--even to the extent that he had taken Benedict XVI as his name, something that the newsfeeds hadn't yet gotten.

So, is broadcast news doomed or what?

The beast of Revelation will rise in Rome, probably with the next Pope. It will be interesting to see what this dude is going to say about the world today. Time is getting short in these last days. Watch and be aware of what is going on in Europe and the Middle East and it's fullfillment of prophecy.

Smokeman, I love you like the brother you are, and by the grace of God and the Constitution of the United States you are free to have and express your opinion, but...

To the rest of the world, please understand that MSM's views do not represent the mainstream of protestant thought on the matter. I'm old enough to remember three Popes (well, now 4), and I've heard this EXACT claim for each one. Durned if I know who is good and who is evil, and I have plenty of theological and doctrinal disagreements with the Catholic church; but frankly I'm tired of getting grouped in with this sort of claim. MSM, didn't you think the same thing about JP2? And didn't your teachers think the same thing about the Popes before him?

I can't see any specific reason to assume that Rome in The Revelation even refers to a geographic region (as opposed to some other authoritarian seat, like Rome was at the time The Revelation was recorded). What's more, I frankly doubt that the Pope is the MOST evil person in geographic Rome, anyway.

Er, guys--the whole point of the post was to marvel at how there was a complete Wikipedia entry on the new Pope before the network news feeds managed to broadcast it.

Makes me wonder if there wasn't someone with a notebook and WiFi sitting on the steps of the Vatican, ready to post the news.

As far who or what anyone thinks His Holiness is or is not, I'm sure the media will do a wonderful job of filling us in.

I thought sure the next pope would be Pujols. With the numbers he's put up the past few years, he should've won the MVP a few times. If any of the Cardinals was qualified for pope, it would've been him.

I don't recognize the picture. I feel pretty certain the new German Shepherd won't end up like the second picture. Right now, he has a world as his stage.

My only question is why did they elect some one soooooooo old? He's 78 for crying out loud!!! And no broadcast news is not dead. It's just not "IT" anymore...if that makes sense.

I believe that Cardinal Roncalli (John XXIII) was about the same age when he was elected to the position--and he accomplished quite a bit.

I agree with you, here. It seems a shame that politics(liberal vs. conservative, especially) should have to rear it's ugly head, here.

This one's more of a rebound pope. You know, after you've been with one pope for such a long time, you don't want to jump right in to another long term committment. You want to play the field of popes before you get involved with one that might last.
