FS Sam Gnagey, King, York,C tuba
I've retired and am ready to sell this horn.King bugle cut to C, slides rerouted to pull from the top, 5th rotary valve after the main tuning slide, topped off with a York bell. Has an adjustable gap receiver, custom leadpipe, and vented valves. Comes with a Walt Johnson flight case. Four thousand firm. Located in north Central Florida(10 miles north of Eustis). I'd rather not ship it for trial but would meet a buyer within an hour or two of here but the best would be to come here and play it. Further down the thread are some comments from the former owner, from last year, but still valid. Also, all of last year's pics. The horn hasn't left the house since the pics If you're interested shoot me a PM and we can discuss it further. Ed

Got it--thanks. I'm a little slow on the uptake today, I guess.

Here are pictures I'm posting on behalf of the seller (they're a little large, but hey, makes it easier to see right?):

That is a great looking horn. I have gotten to the point where I trust this "look" more than the shiny ones.
Thanks for the pictures!

That was my horn and I did lots to it. I vented and replated the valves. Custom nickel lead pipe. Slides all aligned, new 5th valve tubing. Ring on third valve slide. All work done by Matt Walters. Great horn. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Re: FS Sam Gagey, King, York,C tuba
This is one of the very early horns that I put together. I've made significant changes in my design of the bugle and valve cluster routing over the nearly 25 years since this one was made. With all the modifications and upgrades this horn bears, $4500 is a great deal for someone. Hey Ed, unless some guy named Gagey made the tuba you might want to edit the title to Gnagey.

It would be difficult to find a better CC 4/4 horn than this for the $4500 price it is offered. And it comes with a case...

Re: FS Sam Gnagey, King, York,C tuba
How would you compare this horn to a Getzen G-50? It seems to be a similar idea (King-style BBb body with a York bell). Has anyone had the chance to play these two side by side? Is there a big difference in sound/response/etc. with the placement of the fifth valve?

Thanks Ben, I'm going to be out of town until the weekend so if anyone PM's me I won't get it or be able to respond to it till then. As to the Getzen, I've never tried one but they do seem very similar in concept. Ed
