SOLD! Thanks to those who expressed interest in the Mirafone!
Hello All,
For sale is a 1962 Mirafone 186 BBb tuba. The horn had some work done on it before I received it. There are a few small pinholes where the bell was rolled out; none of which affect the sound. The intonation is great and it has a nice sound. The valves/slides all move; although the valves are a little noisy due to the old S linkages. I've tried to show where any dents are in the pictures. The finish is mostly raw brass, with a little bit of lacquer here and there. I also have an Altieri gig bag will bell bonnet that will be included with the horn.
I am asking for $1200 for the Mirafone 186 and gig bag. Buyer pays shipping via Greyhound. I am also interested in trading for a E Flat Tuba. I may be willing to trade my horn plus cash for a compensating Eb tuba or Yamaha 321 Eb.
Feel free to contact me via PM or at grigsby13ATgmailDOTcom with any questions or offers.
Thanks!

Is it just me or does the top "loop"/curve of the leadpipe extend out farther than other 186's? It seems like the other leadpipes I've seen "hug" the curve of the top bow a little more closely. Nice looking patina on that thing.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving's probably not for you.
Yes, the top curve does extend out farther than other 186s that I've seen. I'm not sure what the story with it is, but that's how the lead pipe was when I got the horn. It doesn't seem like the lead pipe was damaged, other than the small ding which can be seen in the pictures.

If I knew how to replace linkages I would.
Here is some information about replacing linkages. I'm sure that your local repairman could replace them with more modern linkages if you wanted. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

A competent repair tech can make the S-Linkages work fine. A few years ago, I had a 186 with S-Linkages that were noisy and had them rebuilt and adjusted here in Seattle. After the rebuild, they were noise free. Cheaper than replacement, too!

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that the S—linkages can be fixed without a complete replacement.

Personally, I love the S linkages and consider them as a very desirable feature when I am thinking of buying a horn. This one looks like a very good deal to me. The market for used horns is not as fluid as it used to be. This one will sell when the right buyer sees it.
***Weekend Sale: If you purchase this tuba & gig bag between 12/9 - 12/13 the price is $1100 with shipping via Greyhound included! After Sunday, the price will go back up!*** I'm motivated to make a quick sale!

I will be gone this evening as I have a band concert and tomorrow I plan on driving to Missoula to play in their TubaChristmas. I should be home midafternoon Saturday.
I can send a check and you may hold off on shipping until the check clears the bank.
