That Martin bell has its own zip code.
It isn't the biggest but I'll take a 25J anytime. Towers above most.

IIRC, the diameter of that bell on Paul Scott's Martin is 30 inches.
This is Uwe Schneider's F. X. Hüller 4-valve BBb Kaiser Tuba. It is 123 cm (48.4") tall with a 61 cm (24") bell:

Uwe has an even taller BBb Kaiser Tuba that he is having rebuilt as a BBb/FFF sub-bass double tuba:

...especially in Brazil where they treasure the Conn 2XJ tubas. They even have stovepipe-type extensions built onto their upright bells. There are many Brazilian hymnsong gatherings on YouTube where you can view these beasts.edsel585960 wrote:It isn't the biggest but I'll take a 25J anytime. Towers above most.

Well ... that stuff is big on youtube, but as far as I know it's hardly representative of normal Brazilians, outside of that particular religious cult.
B.A.T. means Big American Tuba, doesn't it? Seems like kind of a mistake to measure the biggest by bell flare diameter, it should be general volume. Holton would be my guess.

Re: Biggest of the Big BATs
Forgive me, but doesn't BAT stand for Big A** Tuba? I've never heard BAT referred to as Big American Tuba. I could be in left field somewhere, though.

My goodness, that photo of me with the Martin makes the rounds! The bell is 30 inches but looks bigger in the angle of the photo. The tuba it's attached to is the usual .712 bore Martin.
