Best gig bags for a 4/4 tuba
I recently bought a Besson 995 4/4 CC tuba and have been carrying it around in the case that came with it. Which, while beautiful, brings the weight up to about 40 pounds. I was wondering based on your experiences with gig bags or backpack cases, which are the best. Money is also a factor in this, seeing as I only have about $500 to spend on this piece of equipment.

3rd on the Cronkhite. I own 2 and have owned a third that went with a horn when I sold it. If you can afford a couple more hundred the leather is fantastic. Phil

Cronkhite bags are wonderful. Definitely my favorite of all I've owned. I was impressed by the Dolly bag I had in terms of protection, but the ergonomics were a bit lacking. I did see one fail once where one of the backpack straps connects to the bag due to dry rot. The Altieri bags I've owned are inexpensive and functional, but don't offer much in terms of protection. I've also seen these one of these bags fail at the backpack strap / bag connection.
I only carry my horn in my gig bag, and use a small gym bag for my stands / music / mouthpieces, etc., so I can't speak about accessory pouches.

I have Miraphone gig bags for both my CC and F. I couldn't be happier.

Dale, you need to keep those in separate rooms. They are multiplying...
