Blind performer at TubaChristmas

Post by Frank Byrne »

This year in Kansas City we had 705 performers in total at our two TubaChristmas performances, and about 2,500 in the audience. We did have one "first" in that one of our performers was a blind gentleman and it captured the interest of local TV http://www.kshb.com/thenow/blind-musici ... -christmas Our youngest players were 11 years old and we had two 83-years-young performers too. Quite the event!

Even more amazing than the blind tuba player are the half dozen tone deaf tuba players that show up.

Only a half-dozen? Hell... we get more than that out of the total of thirty or so who show up here! :tuba:

Band Directors? I swear they go deaf faster than farmers (I know many of both).
700 is crazy. St. Paul was 120 and Chicago is 400 at tuba Christmas. How many in New York? I may have to make a run to Kansas City.

It's only 350 players at a time and we play in a beautiful concert hall. We had a player come all the way from New Hampshire this year, so come on down next year. But those naysayers are welcome to stay home.

Well, I'm not a naysayer, because clearly you all have found success... but personally, I would find two shifts of 350 less enjoyable than one go of 700 people. Again, I'm glad your event is so popular! Have it outside!
