Dream orchestral brass section

Post by thatawkwardtuba »

If you could take your pick from any orchestra at any time period to form your dream brass section, who would it be?
Mine:
1st trumpet: Bud Herseth
2nd trumpet: Phil Smith
3rd trumpet: David Bilger
1st horn: Dale Clevenger
2nd horn: Sarah Willis
3rd horn: John Cerminaro
4th horn: Howard Wall
1st trombone: Joseph Alessi
2nd trombone: Michael Mulcahy
Bass trombone: George Curran
Tuba: Gene Pokorny

So, who would be your dream orchestral brass section?

Why only American names?
The world is not USA only even though many do have that opinion.
Many of the world's best orchestras are working in other parts.
Widen your sight!

... and Sarah is English!

SO many fine players, nobody really is the best. Anybody able to win and keep a playing job deserves much respect.

I much more prefer the modern-day "balanced trumpet SECTION" type of resonance that I've been hearing more-and-more these days in the POST "trumpet-hero" era.
+1 Good post. For a beautifully balanced trumpet section, attend a live concert by the San Francisco Symphony. There are many other orchestras around the world whose trumpet sections also are moving toward blend and balance. It's about time.

A dream trombone section was actually in existence for a few years in Philadelphia: Glenn Dodson, Joe Alessi, Charlie Vernon.
