Miraphone serial number date

Post by proam »

I have a 3-digit Miraphone. The Lars Kirmser list starts with serial number 1463 in 1960.

So what date is a 700-era Miraphone? Looks like they were using about 200-300 serial numbers per year in early 60's -- just back off a year or so? So this is a 1958 or 1959 horn?

Clock springs? BBb or CC? Pics? Also the horn is spelled MiraPHone, not MiraFone--pre USA distribution?

VERY cool! Have you had it a long time, or did you just get it?

Thanks! I have had it maybe 15 years or so. It was one of my first ebay purchases. It is well used but still plays fine for me.

I have used it in a couple of musicals as well as once in an orchestra pops concert. It has a really nice, dark sound.

I was on the lookout for one after reading that some players liked it for the posthorn solo in Mahler's 3rd.

Email Eva @Miraphone, she's very helpful and can tell you as much info as she has on the horn.

Hi-
As far as serial # info from Miraphone, I have contacted Eva, and the list on Horn Trader, Horn-U-Copua, etc. we all have starting in 1960 onwards is the earliest and only serial number listing Miraphone itself has also. FYI.
