Possibly WTB ALEXANDER 164
Been very interested in getting my hands on one of these for awhile, if anyone out there has one there looking to move to a good home where it absolutely will be used contact me. I'm in particular looking for the BBb version as I already have a good CC but if you have a CC I'll still consider it. Thank you !

I saw a CC 164 at Horn Guys in La Crescenta (LA) last month. It is in fantastic condition. Their website says it is still there, so you might consider giving them a call.

Ben Vokits (s/n: Ben) has both a 163 and a 164, both in CC. The 164 used to belong to JC Sherman.
They are quite rare, and they sound friggin amazing.

I talked to him (Ben) and he wasn't interested in selling his at the time and I don't blame him. I'll give horn guys a call, do you guys think that they will be there at Tmea? Maybe I can ask them to bring it.

Sounds great, I'm really interested in something that would be great for wagner and brahms and perhaps other band pieces that call for a darker color than my Tuono.tuben wrote:I've had a 164 BBb next to my 163CC.
The 164 is quite a bit larger.

My mistake, I wasn't implying that he was selling his, just that he might be able to answer your questions about this model.EMC wrote:I talked to him (Ben) and he wasn't interested in selling his at the time and I don't blame him. Good luck, and when you get one, you'd better show it off!

Might want to consider a rotary Fafner.
I love mine.

An Alex 164 is possibly closer to the Melton 197 (Hilgers model) than to the 195 Fafner in main bugle size/shape...jimgray wrote:Might want to consider a rotary Fafner.

Don't know about how they compare though ....

That's a great horn, I'm very well aware of it but I really want that Alexander feel and sound, and something that will provide a bigger deeper darker sound than the Tuono.jimgray wrote:Might want to consider a rotary Fafner.

I've never played a 197 but I've heard Roland has one and I know he's very excited about it!

Re: Possibly WTB ALEXANDER 164
I was at Alexander a few days ago. They had three BBb 164s sitting in the show room. Two brand new ones and one pre war one that was fully restored. All were great horns. I think the restored one is in the 8000 euro range and was my favorite of the bunch.

8000 euros huh? Sounds like a good deal I'll think about that one maybe if someone could loan me a few grand just so it doesn't completely wreck my bank account

I asked then about that one, he flat out told that it doesn't play very well he thinks that something must be wrong with it but if that's really the first thing he has to say about it I don't think I'm really all that interested. And I'd rather have a BBb anyway.

I think probably the only CC 164 I'd be interested in is Ben's since I understand his plays exceptionally well
if you're reading this Ben let me know if you're interested.
