She does not count my various brass noisemakers and I don't count the boxes of jewelry making supplies. Everybody is happy.

We've both probably sold enough tubas that the ones we've decided to keep do not represent any negative cash flow.

Bloke nailed it! I currently have maybe 25 tubas and 10 sousaphones/helicons here but Mrs. Tinker doesn't care as long as I keep her in a few pro-level saxophones and sell enough stuff to pay for a descent vacation a couple of times a year and lots of meals out. There are another 30 or so odds and ends like trombones, bagpipes, euphoniums, accordions, and other weird stuff like an Alphorn and a cimbasso. I have enough stuff loaned out to start a small concert band... some stuff which I'll probably never see again. No one's keeping score and no one cares.

I have 8 tubas/helicons/Sousaphones and 1 double belled euphonium. I have one more tuba one the way. My wife has allowed me to put together a room in the basement to store/display and practice tubas. She never says a word about it, but I never say a word when a new purse shows up.

Mike, as soon as I saw the title of this thread, I knew Susie had to be number one, hands down. No contest! I just didn't want to be the one to bring it up. No question, Mike, you're the winner in the tuba arms race.

Though that number, in combination with her accumulated days at tuba conferences/events, does warrant some level of sainthood ranking for her.
I've known wives that put up with tuba collectors, record collectors, camera collectors, book collectors and who knows what all else. Susie deserves the highest level of sainthood of all of them. :-)

I have only one euphonium right now. My wife does put up with me collecting watches though. I have nine - not too many in my opinion. They take up much less room than horns and usually cost less.

The number is 6 at present. The other half is still happier I spend money on tubas than hitting the local titty bar. :)

It's strange.

The smarter I get, the less tubas I tend to own. Same with bass guitars.

As I get smarter my wife rating goes down. Currently at 2 which is the lowest it has been for a very long time.

Also worth noting that playing tuba and bass guitar both require me to remove my wedding ring.

I only have one tuba, my beloved O-99, but lots of others, four bones, trumpet and euphonium. I was concerned a while back because I kept feeling a bit of resentment from the better half. She is the financial draconian in the family so I knew that eventually I would get the, "Just how much did these things cost us anyway?" question. I did a spread sheet and to my amazement I am ahead of the game. By buying and selling smart(or lucky) over time I have a Besson 943R bass trombone, an Olds O-25 big tenor, an Olds Recording trombone, an off brand alto trombone, a Kanstul/Besson MEHA trumpet, a King 2280 euphonium, my tuba and $380 profit. Now that I am prepared she will probably never ask. I'll rate her after that conversation.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

My wife lets me have the same number of tubas as I have shotguns, which currently stands at 6 of each.
