Plastic euphonium

I guess I should have known about it, but I just heard today about plastic euphs (and tubas!!)

Are these any good? Why are they $1000? What size shank do they take?

A friend is asking whether these are close enough to the "real thing" to consider one. He plays hymns at the nursing home, and a lighter weight horn would be a real help. But he plays a 1 1/2 or 2G; needs a large receiver.

I am surprised so many seem to be made in black. It must be possible to produce these in more appealing color schemes, ala the P-bone.

out of the dozens of instruments that I personally played this year, that was the only one that had even a hiccup of a valve problem

even if the 4th valve had worked perfectly, it was still a terrible sounding instrument

It's not a WIND instrument, it's a PERCUSSION instrument. Says so right on the booth sign:
