Lots Of Stuff For Sale

Post by Dan Schultz »

I've added a few 'interesting' horns to my For Sale page at thevillagetinker.com.

No... I'm not sick or dying! It's just time to 'thin the herd'. I'm getting tired of having to oil and dust this stuff!

No more Marzans?

Great horns, and a great price.

I REALLY have mixed emotions about selling the Marzans. I played the piston one at a gig Friday evening and again at a rehearsal Saturday morning. Good horn!

Do not despair, Terry. My BBb chops might have gotten in my way but I've always thought the BBb Marzans to play A LOT better than the CC ones.

Which plays better, the piston or the rotary?

I would like to hear Dan's opinion, but in my take the BBb rotary are the best (out of BBb/CC, piston/rotor)

I agree with Marty. I like the BBb rotary better than all the other Marzans. That being said... I find it remarkable how much alike the .750" bore rotary and piston horns are to play. They share the large bows and bells so I guess that's to be expected. Ergonomics are very similar, too. I think the rotors are quicker and more forgiving. I also think that changing the rotors from string to spherical ball-action is a big mistake.

The only downside to the rotary Marzan is the lack of a good way to get water out of the horn. Sometimes I often feel like F horn player!
