Well..............you could put a leadpipe and receiver on it and have something for a Tuba Christmas event where you wouldn't have to worry about some kid knocking your horn over and putting a dent in it.
The best way to have a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Do it on the cheap and attach a rubber - or plastic - hose to it and play it at funky angles

I guess this would be a 15J. Convertible, in the intermediate condition of the conversion process? Not that I have any idea how that works, but if so I would think it's relatively good news for the prospective owner, compared to a non-convertible tuba that had lost its leadpipe in the normal course of events.

Yes... it's a 15J. It was Conn's answer to the concert tuba vs. marching tuba question. The leadpipe was switched and the 1st and 3rd slides transposed to make it a shoulder-fired weapon. It probably would have been OK had the kids utilized the leadpipe braces instead of tearing the receiver where it couples to the 1st valve off.

Seller ended the auction early. 2nd one this year that I bid on. They must be getting good offers on the side and no seller fees.
