You've obviously never met either. Having recently met Bloke, I can say both are outstanding guy, and great players. I wish 1)I lived close enough to take lessson with either, and 2) could afford to do so.

Royce, I don't understand how it could make you angry that people in a public forum (which you aren't required to read) post things that don't amuse you. If you get angry about that kind of thing, it seems like you'd spend most of your life ticked off.

I personally charge $10,000,000 per lesson. I haven't gotten any students yet; but all I need is one.

Dear Mark,

I'm interested in taking a lesson from you. I assume, for $10,000,000, you'll fly to Knoxville?

Regards,

Joe Baker.

PS -- Will you take a check?

Travel and miscellaneous expenses are billed at my cost. I'm not trying to cheat anyone.

I do accept checks which are preconfirmed through VeraCheck, again billed at my cost.

I used to pay $30 an hour for lessons with an ex-drum corps college student and then $40 an hour from a college proffessor. I don't think I have ever had a lesson end on time though.

No, he wasn't...but the rest of us were.
hmm just seemed like a comical statement about rates, I actually didn't think anybody would actually charge people more simply due to their age, and the comment about them not playing fast etudes, as fast, just added to the idea it was alll a joke.

O well, guess I find humor in things that aren't meant to be humorous.

Enough teasing. Time to lay off: 1/ He's young. 2/ He's a yankee, and likely to never recover.

I just hope the sap isn't stupid enough to be doing all this using his real name.

A quick but tangential brag about my son: as a HS sophomore who went to a teensy private school until middle of the 8th grade, he's got two years of experience on the trombone. He's playing extremely well for the amount of time he's been playing, but at least for the time being there are certainly better players to be found. Still, in the last month, he's been sought out to join an otherwise virtually all-adult (and quite good) community band, to sub with a local college jazz band, and to play in the University of TN Honors Festival Band. By 'sought out', I mean that he never approached ANYONE in ANY of these groups; they came to him. Why? Because in addition to being a competent player, he brings a very mature approach to the music, treats others -- especially adults -- with humility and respect, and looks at opportunities like these as chances to improve, not chances to show what hot stuff he is. He has developed (this is where it links up to our friend Royce) a reputation among area music educators as a kid who IS good, who WILL be VERY good, and just as important who will not be a problem in the back row. I fear that Royce's reputation is probably somewhat different.
