I have heard a lot of recordings of The Planets but the one that stands out as the best is a 1979 LP of Sir Georg Solti conducting The London Philharmonic. This one :

Perhaps it's because it was my very first time ever listening to this music . I bought the record not even knowing what it was. I just saw that Holst was the composer and wanted to hear it . I still have that LP and it sounds better than any cd recording I've ever heard.
