This wheel seems to be made of carborundum, so I don't think there's much of a shattering risk.
I've used it many times to successfully cut slides while still on the horn. I find that it does not make the cleanest of cuts, but it's close enough that I can dress it down with a file.
Look up Enkay saw blades. They make a three piece set with 1/2" and 5/8" blades with a mandrel, part no. 383-C. They have lots of different blades, just a little harder to find. Some hobby shops, surplus stores or on line seem to be the best places to find them.
