Removing laquer from a PT6

Post by Tubadork »

hi,
has anyone done this a PT6 and what did you think of the results? I've been toying with the idea, maybe I just like ugly horns.

D'oh!
I shouldn't post when I'm tired,
what I ment to say was how much (if it all) it effects the sounds, response etc...
Cool,

Really hot water will take off laquer as well. I've owned both laquered and unlaquered horns and really didn't notice a difference. I could have told you this in person if you would CALL ME, now that you're back in the SWATS.

No kidding! Any idea what that stuff was made of?

Ha Ha,
Thanks for the welcome home and I am missing Kimchee right now, but luckily there is a whole Korean area on the NE side of Atlanta.
I love the sound of my PT6, but almost all of the horns that I have played that other folks own, that are just amazing (stock horns with a few mods, not frankenhorns) they have stripped all or some of their laquer (for example just the bell stripped). So, I guess I'm always looking to make my horn better. I probably should have had Matt tweak my horn when I was in Jersey (and at Dillon). Does anyone know what exactly he does? he does some majic stuff down there.
I've also thought about Freezing my horn too. Has anyone done this? The testimonials on the Brass bow site are by some heavy duty players and they all love it. Yeah, I know I should stop fooling with my horn and go practice, but after when you get a horn back after it's been tweaked and it all just seems to fall together, it's hard not to think about how you can make a hron even better.

Nice Joe (kryptonite). . .

I stripped my PT-3 a few years ago. The idea being that it would tarnish when I worked on it (torch). I think the laquer on my 6 is the same stuff--it'll come off pretty easily.
