1905 York Monster Eb $1600 Incl Shipping -- SOLDFor Sale: 1905 York Eb Tuba
This York “Monster” is a three piston top-action Eb tuba in bright silver finish. The bell diameter is 19-1/2". The serial number 21xxx gives it an approximate date of 1905. This horn is in exceptional condition. It is bright silver plated. Some very slight wear in the plating is evident in the usual locations, particularly on back of horn near the valve section. No major dents and only a few very minor dings. The valves are in good condition -- still good "pop" in each valve when slide is removed while valve is closed. All three valves are marked with correct serial number of horn. All tuning slides are free. There is no case. Harvey Hartman (Harv's Happy Horns) serviced this instrument several years ago. He adjusted the tuning slide lengths to put the horn in tune with itself. He raised the lead pipe off the bell to improve clarity of tone. He cleaned and flushed all valves and tubing, aligned the valves, installed nylon valve guides, replaced the water key cork, and converted the horn to Hetman synthetic valve oil and slide grease. Otherwise, the horn appears to be completely original. The horn has not been been used for performance since the servicing. This tuba is easy-blowing, has a lovely silky sound, slightly "bright", with remarkable presence. Altogether an excellent instrument. However, at the moment I have three Eb tubas -- a 1912 King that I use regularly, a 1919 Holton that has sentimental value, and this York. I only need one Eb, so have decided to put the York up for sale to someone who will love it and use it. Please see photos at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lmb6kzvnj6b0 ... =100982744" target="_blank" target="_blank" (Double-click to enlarge the photos.) The tuba stand in some of the photos is not for sale. Price drop to $1600 as of 14 May 2018. This is the final price. There will be no lower price. You are most welcome to visit and try-before-you-buy. Located in Hackettstown, NJ. Cannot respond to PM's. Please call or email. Paul R. Re: FS: 1905 York Monster EbI tested this instrument this weekend and have to say that it is one of the best playing instruments of this model that I have played. Very good intonation, sound, and response. The finish and condition are excellent as well.'
Someone is going to get a wonderful instrument if they take this off of Paul's hands! Frank Ortega

Re: FS: 1905 York Monster EbI have played this horn in the last few weeks and it was a wonderful experience. The horn has great intonation and holds its own. As a jazz player, I love to find the edge of the horn and it does not break apart. The flexibility and response is great allowing you to command the horn. This is certainly a great find for someone. It is a great get for a serious Eb performer and truly a nice sound for brass bands.

I check this listing every day. Over a period of several months, it worked its way down to Page 11 of this forum, where it was still getting an average of 4 hits per day. So at least one person is interested, and maybe several. Please feel free to contact me at proscientific AT verizon DOT net, or call 908-850-1636. Thanks!
