Reduced Price: Hybrid CC tuba for sale (SOLD)

Post by Thom »

For sale by a local (Eugene, Oregon) music group is a CC tuba cut down from a Wurlitzer body. The bell flare was shortened, adding the rim of a 24" diameter C.G. Conn bell. The horn is 39" tall. The bore on the 4 piston valves (appear to be Conn with a matching valve added to the original three) is approximatelty .750" and there is a 5th rotary valve (2 + 3 valve combination) with thumb lever. The throw on the rotary valve is a bit long IMO. A soft cover for the horn is included.

If you have attended the Tuba Carol Concert in Eugene/Springfield during the past 10 years, you have seen/heard this horn. Asking $1350. Proceeds from the sale will go to scholarships for low brass students.

Photos are posted on the Eugene Craigslist.

Any other questions, send me a PM.

Thanks for digging the photos up, Tuben. This is Tubameister Jim Newell's personal horn that his family donated to the Oregon Tuba Ensemble to use or sell. As Thom said, we use all our proceeds to fund scholarships for high school and college tuba players.

I got a chance to play this tuba for the first time yesterday. I was surprised at how good I* could make it sound. (*me, BBb player, very rank amateur, not very good pitch sense, used to a much smaller horn, and not a very good tuba player all the way around.)

It does pull a lot of air, and the 5th valve was hard for me to operate, but that is an easily fixed item. The upper register was pretty free-blowing, and I didn't sound too pinched when I got up there.
