Summer Camps

Post by cmonte »

My summer camp job just told me that I wasn't accepted to work there due to the last minute lack of openings. Is anybody hosting a camp/clinic that needs a tuba player or camp counselor?
I am in college, I'm 21 years old and I'll be in the Chicagoland and Milwaukee area otherwise.

Local school system. In my area, many of the JR Highs run a band camp for 5 weeks during the summer.

What are are you looking, how much do you want to get paid? Maybe look into teaching privately during the summer or run your own summer camp. Like 2-3 hours a day Mon-Fri. Get 5 students and ask a community center or church to host a small group daily. Our libraries have ample room--even for noise makers

May could be a bit late but the big summer camps might have staff availability. Or, shoot, ask some of the super Rich camps in the NE if they have room.

Texas is always full of band camps during the summer.

If none of these work out for you, you can talk to the local rec centers or Y if they need staff. Prepare a one page resume to send out to those people.

I'm planning on applying next year since I think it's too late to apply for a camp counselor job there.

If possible, volunteer. It looks really good on your applications for...Well, forever.

I don't know if you can afford that or not. My kid is just now barely a preteen, but he's going to help out at the Y with the little kids if he can manage it. Just to give him a small boost on getting use to offering whatever he can do whenever.

If you need the money, it's not too late to apply for your school county summer camps. Good luck and post follow ups.
