Hey All,
I have a 1938 King model 1236 Eb tuba and was wondering if it originally came with tuning bits. It sits on my lap at an odd angle - in other words you can't hug it like my Yamaha YBB-641 (I know, apples & oranges). I was thinking of extending the lead pipe (tuning slide is in the lead pipe) but if it came with bits then I could use them. Also, If It came with bits, can I use modern King sousaphone bits?
p.s. - I have a good bit of leeway in the tuning slide for this.
p.p.s. - Is the 1236 considered a 4/4 or 5/4 horn?

Re: King Tuba Bits
The 1235/1236 are the Eb fixed bell forerunners of the 1240/1241 BBb tubas. I played a 1235 for several years. No bits are required. Leadpipes are often twisted right before the receiver and the fix seems to be the pipe being shortened to clean it up and the receiver being put back. The leadpipe then is a tad shorter and the angle odd. A bit might help you but a new leadpipe will do best.
