Hi Patrick,
This new tuba has yellow brass construction, a .689" bore with a bell flare of 17". It has 4 front action compensating valves. The design was done in our California shop by Don Sawday. We are calling it the EBE853. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Another front action 4/4 piston Eb to go with the Besson 983, MW 2141, Wessex Gnagey and whatever else is out there?

By looks they all pretty much have a VERY similar bell/wrap/bore. When's somebody going to make a 3/4 or 6/4 front action piston Eb? It just seems there's not much that sets one apart from another. Perhaps the 4/4 front action Eb market is expanding?

I did notice the new Wessex rotor Eb (4/4) seems to fit nicely between the Starlight (3/4+) and Norweigan Star (5/4?), so at least there's some size difference in the German-style rotor Eb's...

How does compensating work with 4 valves? On a 3 valve horn the compensation kicks in when 1st and 3rd valves are used (right?).

On a 3v the comp loop takes the 3rd valve back through 1 + 2 so that '3rd-plus-anything' benefits from compensation. On a 4v the same applies but sending the 4th slide back through 1, 2 + 3.

It sure helps but isn't perfect in tuning with multiple valves or response, particularly on 4v models...

He said the 6(ish)/4 was Matt Walters design.

I thought it was very easy to get around on and every note works. Can't vouch for intonation due to elephant room
