Glad you found a horn. :D Is that the actual picture? The old Amati/Cervenys are good playing horns. Looks a lot like my 681.

Yeah, actually I got one for a Cerveny/Amati stencil Eb helicon with a weird receiver. I didn't care for it much, but some players must like it or it wouldn't still be on the market.

They market it as a "solo" mouthpiece, which I understand to mean shallower, and indeed I remember it as medium depth. They also market it as "funnel" shaped, but it isn't. That's kind of a matter of interpretation - no production mouthpiece has a literally conical profile that I know of, so it's always a compromise, but the Diablo seemed much more rounded to me than a Conn Helleberg, specifically at the top as I remember it the sides were near straight up and down. That was a long time ago, though. Anyway, the "solo" quality was there, but the tone felt colorless to my taste. I got rid of it.

It was a Euro shank, but still didn't fit. The local brass wizard made my receiver accept standard shanks, I don't recall if he said exactly how that was done. That was a huge improvement. I had all kinds of ideas over the years about the ideal best mouthpiece for that thing, eventually figured it was a Dillon Sheridan thing, and then when I sold it the lucky new owner preferred my favorite Marcinkiewicz H3. Even if it had been a regular Euro shank, that would have been wretched - difficult and expensive to experiment with mouthpieces.

Hello TubaBum,

If you send Josef Klier Mouthpieces or Bruno Tilz Mouthpieces an email, either one of them have exactly what you need and is inexpensive.

Dillon Music has an "Eb to BBb" tuba mpc adapter for only $25:

I've had mine for years now, and it works great for fitting medium/smallish tuba mpc shanks via the adapter to larger mpc receivers

Find the link where Bloke discribes how he made an adapter type taper in the mouthpipe of an Alex (from an 88h outer slide I believe). Or write him an email or call him.
