Tuba Duet Books?

Post by Tubajug »

Greetings,

I've got a $30 gift card to a local music store that's been sitting in my wallet for a while and I thought I'd buy a tuba duet book. I like to use duets as sight reading practice during private lessons and I've been through just about all of the duets in my current book (and old copy of "My Melody Book" I think is the title).

I would like it to be something playable by high school students (the majority of my private students) but also musically pleasing (not just a bunch of "cheese" tunes).

Any recommendations?

I like the Walter Sear Duets. Some are pretty challenging but that's a good thing.

The link is for Volume #1 but Volume #2 is listed just below.
Good Luck.

I enjoy the tuba duets from Medici Music Press, particularly the Mozart book. http://medicimusicpress.weebly.com

I came across this duet. There are some demanding passages and sometimes one doesn't know exactly where to breathe, but my students quite like the piece.

I don't know if they're still in print but 21 Distinctive Duets for tubas by Roger Jones are terrific. The publisher is/was University of Miami Music Publications. Ed

I always enjoy the Amsden Duets. They are written for euphonium/trombone but I just read it down an octave. Very well written.

I really like the book "Fun Play Along Duets". They are especially good for teaching because there are plenty of musical challenges, but almost no range challenges. It also comes with a cd of Pat Sheridan playing both parts (together and separately), so that gives a kid something to listen to and work with at home.

Yes, they are terrific. No, they are no longer in print, unless something has change since the last time I tried to chase down a copy (maybe two or three years ago).

"Tuba Duets", songs by Mauro Giuliani, arranged by Dr. Mark Mordue (tuba player and teacher) and published by the Tuba and Euphonium Press are nice and very playable. You can see if you local music store can order the book, but meanwhile, if you wish to take a look at online, here is a link:

While at online at sheetmusicplus.com, you might wish to take a look at Mozart Duets. Several people have arranged them for 2 tubas. Very melodic and requires good listening skill between duet partners. (You should be able to order most of these thru your local music store in order to use your gift certificate.)
