SOLD: Miraphone 186 BBb

Post by tubaeric »

I have for sale a very early Miraphone 186 BBb tuba. It does not have a bell garland or a serial number on it. I believe this tuba is from the 1950's. This tuba plays very well. There is still some lacquer left on it, but it is mostly raw brass. It comes with the Reunion Blues gig bag that is pictured. The bag is a perfect fit for this tuba.

Pictures can be found here: http://s791.photobucket.com/user/tubaer ... 0186%20BBb" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

I am asking $1750 obo. I will entertain trade offers as well. I am located in Northwestern IL, but frequently drive to Iowa, Wisconsin, and towards Chicago. Please PM with questions or offers.

I emailed photos to Miraphone. They told me that it is one of their horns.

I see the Mirafone triangle on the bell stack so that might mean something.

I have seen other Miraphones from that era with the clockwork spring valves.

The instrument is indeed a pre - 1960 Mirafone 186 BBb. I can guarantee this, as I did quite a bit of work on this instrument in my shop with Eric. This instrument is not fully-restored to cosmetic beauty and perfection, but it is very close to being dent-free, it is really clean, and after quite a bit of valve and linkage work, the valves are good-enough that I could perform on it tonight. If a player wants a good, dependable Mirafone but does not want to pay for cosmetic perfection, this instrument would fit the bill.

For the history buffs, if you have an accurate way of ascertaining the date of a pre-serial number Mirafone tuba besides having the original bill of sale, I'd like to know about it.
